Humanities Foundation has been a leader in providing affordable housing in the Southern region since 1992. By developing over 2500 units of affordable housing, both rental and homeownership. Beyond affordable housing, the Foundation provides a wide range of services to assist our housing residents with health and human services needs. BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH AFFORDABLE HOUSING Rental housing is considered affordable if a resident pays no more than 30 percent of their income in rent. Without a sufficient supply of affordable housing, teachers, service employees, police officers, firemen and other professionals simply cannot afford to live in the communities in which they work. This leads to long commutes, urban sprawl or simply job openings left unfilled. These individuals are the backbone of any thriving, well- balanced community and the availability of high- quality affordable housing can allow people to work where they live. As rental rates increase, the need for affordable housing becomes more critical. Beyond serving as a non-profit developer of affordable housing, The Foundation has numerous resident services programs in place. Our ShelterNet program provides emergency financial relief that has helped over 50,000 individuals avoid eviction or loss of essential utility services since it was established in 1995. The Foundation is also a dedicated advocate whose members serve on many local, state and national committees. In addition, we provide educational and health services to our housing residents as well as technical assistance to organizations and government entities.
